On September 6, 2019<\/a>, the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard released an Action Plan<\/a> for the renewal and expansion of its Indigenous programs in response to the 141 recommendations put forth during Indigenous Program Review. At the same time, the Minister released the Department\u2019s Reconciliation Strategy<\/a> which is guided by the Indigenous Program Review\u2019s pivotal message: Ignite a Culture Change.<\/p>\n

The Action Plan<\/strong> describes how DFO is responding to each program review recommendation and how these are reflected in the renewal of its Indigenous program. The Annex<\/a> at the end of the action plan also organizes each recommendation alongside Implementation action(s), status and timing.<\/p>\n

The Institute intends to closely track this progress. We also want to hear directly from program participants about how these changes are benefitting your communities and businesses.<\/p>\n

To start, we\u2019ve been preparing tailored Program Review recommendation reports to help each region and sector of the Department and Coast Guard understand how Indigenous Program Review involves their day-to-day work. We also plan to design and regularly report on an IPR scorecard.<\/p>\n
